Helping Preserve Maasai Culture

The UNESCO Observatory andOzQuest Adventures joined forces in late 2010 to undertake a project to research, plan and design a new cultural village and sculpture park for the Maasai people of the Ngong hills in Kenya. The objective is to create an ongoing sustainable business for the Ngong area Maasai through the construction of a facility for the community to use in the making and selling of their handcrafts.  Working with local community organization MACCONET (http://www.simplesite.com/macconet-kenya/), the first stage of the project involves community consultation, design, photography, site analysis, business planning, cultural and health consideration, engineering and construction. In the next stage of the project in late 2011, the project will be built and realized when a second group from Australia will assist in the construction of the facility. This exciting cultural village project will address the preservation and sustained success of the crafts, heritage and skills unique to the Maasai world. We look forward to sharing information and photos of this expedition.
